On May 30, at the “Swiss Life Arena” in Zurich, Switzerland, as the 2026 Ice Hockey World Championship draws to a close, the second semi-final will take place.
The national teams of Canada and Finland will compete for a place in the final. This is one of the fiercest rivalries in world hockey.
Canada won Group B. At the start of the playoffs, the “Maple Leafs” secured a convincing victory in the “North American super derby” over the United States (4:0), thereby avenging their painful defeat in the Olympic final.
“Suomi” finished in 2nd place in Group A, behind hosts Switzerland. In the quarter-final, Antti Pennanen’s team gave the Czechs little chance (4:1).

The North Americans are slight favorites for the upcoming game. The standout among the Canadians is San Jose Sharks center Macklin Celebrini, who has 6 goals and ranks 2nd in the scoring race. Today, he has a great opportunity to catch up with, and perhaps overtake, Latvian hockey player Rudolfs Balcers (7).
The Finns are above all strong as a team. They have no clear leader; discipline and excellent teamwork come to the fore.
