On May 16, at the “Campo Centrale” court in Rome (Italy), as the WTA-1000 “Internazionali BNL d’Italia-2026” tournament comes to a close, the women’s singles final will take place.
The title will be contested by Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina and American Coco Gauff. Elina is currently at the bottom of the WTA Top 10. Coco is the world No. 4. Elina leads their head-to-head record (3-2), including a win over today’s opponent at the “WTA 1000” tournament in Dubai this season (6:4, 6:713-15, 6:4). The score shows how hard-fought the match was.
We can expect another spectacular and fiercely contested match today.

This is perhaps Elina’s favorite tournament. She has won twice on these courts (2017-18) and feels “right at home.”
On her way to the final, the “Ukrainian star” eliminated the second and fourth seeds, Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek, respectively. She defeated the Kazakh in the quarterfinals. Iga fell in the semifinals.
Coco is having her best clay-court tournament of the season. She has already come from behind to win three times during the competition. This speaks to her excellent mental state and readiness to fight for every point. The day before, in the semifinal, Coco comfortably beat Romania’s Sorana Cirstea (6:4, 6:3). Last year, she also reached the final of the Rome “WTA 1000”, where she lost without much of a chance to local tennis player Jasmine Paolini (4:6, 2:6).
Gauff has practically resolved the serving problems that have plagued her this season. Elina has been showing her best form since the start of the season.
