On January 30, on Rod Laver Arena (Melbourne, Australia), as the Grand Slam tournament Australian Open 2026 draws to a close, a men’s singles semifinal will take place.
Serbian legend Novak Djokovic will face the reigning Australian major champion, Italy’s Jannik Sinner. Novak is ranked No. 4 in the ATP rankings. Jannik is the world No. 2. The Italian tennis player leads their head-to-head record (6–4). He has also won their last 5 matches.
Nole has passed the “baton” to Jannik in Melbourne. As a reminder, Djokovic has won a record 10 titles here, while Sinner is the champion of the past two years.

The celebrated Serbian made a confident run through the draw up to the quarterfinal, where he faced Lorenzo Musetti. The Italian took the first two sets, but at (1:3) in the third set, he suffered a quadriceps injury and had to retire, handing the victory to the Serbian. This wasn’t the kind of win Nole had hoped for, as he himself admitted after the match.
Jannik is heading toward a third consecutive title in his customary fashion. The previous day, he comfortably defeated top American tennis player Ben Shelton (6:3, 6:4, 6:4).
